Star Wars Battlefront 1/2 Mods

These are mods I've created in Star Wars Battlefront 1 (2004) and 2 (2005). Some were large team projects, but most were solo endeavors. Links are provided to view each mod in greater detail.

Game Mods

  • Platform: PC
  • Project Length: Multiple
  • Role: Solo developer, Contributing developer
  • Tools: ZeroEditor, Softimage XSI
  • Design: Most map development went straight from paper sketches to test builds, but for later projects, I used greyboxing as an intermediate step. Any map development was done with at least one (but frequently more) community tests for bugfinding and feedback.
  • Scripting: Using Lua, I scripted seven standalone game modes designed for use by other modders. I also scripted over 20 narrative campaign missions and a campaign wrapper using SWBF2's Galactic Conquest interface.
  • Art: Many of these mods used 3D art I created in Softimage XSI. I also "created" and rigged several kitbashed player models.
  • Production: For two large projects I was lead developer in charge of coordinating map and feature development as well as tracking and fixing bugs.

Standalone Maps (2007-)

I've developed several standalone map projects. These are listed here.

Death Star II: Emperor's Throne Room (2011, SWBF1 release 2012) is a map designed to be a 1:1 scale re-creation of a movie scene from Return of the Jedi with additional information provided by behind-the-scenes books. The map is a small arena map with a handful of scripted Easter eggs and a small additional scripted dueling mode. You can view the project at ModDB.

Battle of Endor (Space) (2008) is an expanded space map with new units and enlarged ship interiors. You can view the project at ModDB.

Spira: Besaid (2008) is a Final-Fantasy-themed map for which I scripted out progression mechanics and in-game cutscenes to kludge an RPG into a shooter engine. You can view the project at ModDB.

Sullust: Jedi Conclave (2007) is an arena map designed around a custom faction. You can view the project at ModDB.

Ralltiir: Swoop Circuit (2007) is a circuit-based map designed around a custom racing mode. It also supported standard modes of play on the same map. You can view the project at ModDB.

Abraxas Platform (2007, 2.0 release 2009) is a space map with a custom starting area and a custom faction. It also included a hidden Easter egg sidequest. You can view the project at ModDB.

Kothlis: Sea Haven Coin Mode (2016) is a custom mode and some bonus features I developed for a popular mod map. I built a script that allows the map to change appearance based on the real-world time-of-day, a script that controls for bonus damage depending on the in-game weather, and a new mode based on collecting items dropped by enemies. You can view the project at ModDB.

Beach Troopers (2011)

This is a lighthearted conversion mod of the base game that turns units into swimsuit-wearing, water-gun-carrying beach troopers. This was designed as a fully-polished testbed for three new scripted game modes - an escort-based tug-of-war (Soak the Wookiee), an attrition-based base defense (Sand Castles), and a singleplayer progression-based horde defense mode (Survival). You can view the project at ModDB.

The Dark Times mod (2009, 2.0 release 2010)

This is a comprehensive overhaul mod of the base SWBF2 game. It includes 16 new maps, 9 of which were exclusively my work, three new scripted game modes , a completely custom 16-mission partially non-linear campaign, and over fifty new units. I was responsible for organizing the team of map contributors to the project and tweaking their maps to meet a consistent art style for the project. I was solely responsible for development of all the content outside of map development. You can view the project at ModDB.

Rebel Ops Campaign (2009)

This is a three-part campaign mission series released serially over two years. Each mission in the series had different scripted mechanics - the first mission had RPG-style interactable NPCs and stat progression, the second mission had a script-controlled grappling mechanic and stealth and piloting objectives, and the third had a scripted weapon exchange system and unique camera-controlled cinematics. You can view the project at ModDB.

SWBF Conversion Pack 2.0 (2008)

This is an overhaul mod for the base SWBF2 game. Throughout its 1.0 version, it morphed from solely a conversion of SWBF1 content to SWBF2 into an omnibus mod. The original mod's lead passed the reins to me to cut content, add content, and fix content for a 2.0 release. It adds 25 new maps (two of which were my work), five new gamemodes, two new factions, and an expansion to the Galactic Conquest mode of the original game. I was responsible for the aforementioned team management as well as the development of the additional factions and some small mapping contributions. You can view the project at ModDB.
